A popular YouTube video had aired on TV3, which was also included in the ACP (in-flight movie) as well as many other media outlets. This has created a heated discussion on the Internet and among the public. This blog post takes a closer look at this incident, and debates whether it is morally right for netizens to share videos of violent incidents without consent of those involved. It also tackles whether or not we can prevent such incidents by having stricter punishment and better security arrangements. A controversy video about the Dayak and Madurese conflict has been doing viral on the internet and social networking sites like Facebook and YouTube. This ACP (in-flight movie) was uploaded by a user called "Supermediapop" on YouTube, which was later discovered to be re-edited from a video called "Dayak vs Madura" made by a Malay user known as "limkokwinga1". The original video has been taken down by YouTube due to its content that contravenes its terms of service. Another unblurred version uploaded by "Suparjosef4" can still be found on YouTube. Younger generations in the East Malaysia feel that the controversy involves them as well. They see it as an attack on their country, and take offence to any critical comments about either side. Many people wonder why such a video has been uploaded to YouTube by a Malaysian, and not uploaded by a "Malaysian" to YouTube. Well, YouTube is a worldwide video sharing websites where videos can be shared around the world, so any Australian or American could have uploaded this video. The uploader could have been a far-away Indonesian or Chinese student or a foreigner from another country who does not even know what the conflict is all about, just because this is not newsworthy for them unlike Malaysia. However, it is important to note that this video was uploaded at about the same time as the incident, which means that this video was filmed by somebody who happened to be there at the right time. The conflict between the Dayak and Madurese has been continued for quite some time, and people are still not sure how it started. Some say that the Madurese immigrated into Kalimantan (Indonesian Borneo) during Dutch Colonial times, while others argue that Madurese were already living in Borneo before Dutch Colonial times. The Dutch were seen as occupiers by majority of the Malaysians since they colonised Malaysia for more than 300 years. Thus, the Madurese were seen as suspicious people by many Malaysians. The Malaysian government has failed to address the ethnic conflict in North Kalimantan, which is why the conflict has escalated into prominence nowadays. If curfews can be implemented in East Malaysia during election times, the Malaysian government should also take serious actions to address this ethnic conflict instead of shooting videos of it and posting them online for entertainment purposes. People are divided on how they should respond to this kind of videos depending on their background and stance on media ethics. Some believe that these videos are inappropriate or even unethical while others do not see any wrong-doing in uploading these kinds of videos. cfa1e77820
